CAN DO

It's been a couple of weeks, and you probably forgot about me, so let's fix that...

I've been pretty busy, and there's a few things to report but not an overwhelming amount just hitting personal milestones...

MESEEKS AND DESTROY
Things have actually gone pretty well, I've managed to get enough gold to move most of my characters to Tichondrius. At this point in fact, there are only three remaining to move. However, I'm not sure I'm going to move my Monk as frankly I've managed to get some quick levels on a newbie Monk on Tichondrius already. Either way, with the XP flowing I should be looking at a screen full of 110s on my new home server soon.

Majesticer and Majecticer...
This has been a mixed bag of an expansion for me so far, I've started raiding again, but I've also done WAY more server hopping than ever before. And for me, that's a problem. I move somewhere, I'm bringing a ton of alts. Of course, I'm not out of pocket since I can just turn my gold into tokens/balance as I've been doing. But, that's when it gets nutty. Roughly this amounts to about 550k gold for three characters. And that's just a server transfer. So, for a full set of twelve that's a little over 2 million gold...

ZEROES AND ONES
Speaking of gold, I've obviously been making some if I've managed to move so many characters around. Well, I mentioned the Chimichanga Connection previously, and it's responsible really for my ability to move around so freely.

I paid five thousand gold total for everything in this screenshot and all of it has since sold...
The TLDR is cross realm pet trading, which has been a thing for years now. Historically speaking though, it's never been seriously considered by a lot of people because of the headache of moving that gold from some backwater server you only have a level 3 Blood Elf on to your main server where you can put it to some actual use. Basically it works like this...

First you get some seed money to the new server so you can start posting auctions, admittedly this is the easiest hurdle to overcome. But then, there's the more daunting task of finding servers with a favorable markup in the first place, and of course finding the right pets to sell there. And then the tedium of moving everything where it needs to go. That last part is something that only gets worse as you diversify.

Because you have to learn it on your buy server, switch to the sell server. Find the appropriate pet, cage it and any others you're looking to sell, then begin the process of listing them. Then you have the wait to look forward to, pets like transmog and other largely cosmetic items in the game don't sell instantly. You're usually waiting for days, weeks, or even months before something sells.

Then you have to figure out how to get it back to your main where it can actually do you some good, which means basically doing what you just did... backwards. Or at least, that WAS the case until very recently. See now that we can buy battle.net balance with wow tokens, there's a while lot more we can get out of cross realming pets. The main appeal here is of course that one can easily do things like buy months worth of game time with gold. Pay for game services, pets, mounts, etc. You can even buy packs in Hearthstone, Crates in Overwatch. Or hell, even buy games you never bothered to spend real money on. And the return can be substantial as long as you're patient and willing to put the time in.

The upkeep isn't too bad really, but the initial investment can definitely be daunting, so the real question is - is it worth it? That depends on how much your time is worth and how much you want to cut your wallet away from the game. For me, it's absolutely worth it. Not only is it an interesting challenge for my gold making skills, but it's nice to know I'm not stuck on a bad server, or with a character that I don't like the looks of. Knowing I can always pick up one of those other Blizzard games that I've been meaning to try out but just couldn't talk myself into spending money on. So, for me. Yeah, totally worth it.

LEVEL 9 ACCESS

This week I knocked out my first Heroic run with the new guild and brought over my first alt for the team, so what else is new...

SZECHUAN SAUCE
So, for the first part... let's get caught up. Raiding with the new guild is honestly very laid back, it's the experience I was looking for. We raid twice per week, day 1 we cleared all the way to Gul'dan. Got a few attempts on him before calling it a day. Next morning, came back and knocked him and Botanist out. I really wasn't expecting much in terms of loot, but holy hell...

I'm gonna go take a shit...

Yeah, I pretty much ended up with a full set of Heroic tier from that run. I just need Legs to finish the four piece Heroic (got the Normal ones Monday), and I'm not using the Cloak or Hood. I snagged a couple of other pieces as well, like a trinket that was loads better than what I had at the time. I and a few others managed to get Ahead of the Curve from the Gul'dan kill. Which was one of my goals this time around, so I'm happy.

DAS KAPITAL
Now, on to the topic of the butter brigade... I decided to bring over my Paladin first, as I'd already started leveling him again, he was sitting at 104 with full rested experience. And with his new role in my roster, I'd rather get him over before anyone else really.

I will slaughter them like a wolf among lambs - the seas will run red with the blood of my enemies!

Tamberlain in addition to being a Mount farming alt is also my main Tailor and Leatherworker, which means while I'm tabbed out writing this for example he's mass crafting bags to list on the AH and Silkweave Bracers to either Disenchant or Obliterate as the market dictates. I've also juggled some duties and professions around a bit, consolidating further and just making the whole thing a little less convoluted.

My Death Knight for example, now known as Nerghull is my Blacksmith/Jewelcrafter, meaning he's all about the Ore. I get ore on a farmer or just randomly on an alt, I send it to him for processing. Similarly, I send Leather, Cloth, or similar crafting goods to Tamberlain. Enchanting materials and items that needs to be either Disenchanted or Obliterated go to my Demon Hunter, Bhelial. Similarly, Herbs now go directly to my main for processing as Czernovog has dropped enchanting for Alchemy.

My Hunter and my Druid are the oddballs, the Hunter is my Engineer, and is ultimately self-sufficient with mining. My Druid is just a material farmer, and sends Ore/Herbs to the appropriate characters for processing. Everybody else is making bags and disenchanting bullshit as it drops.

The Butter Brigade
1. Death Knight - Blacksmithing/Jewelcrafting
2. Demon Hunter - Enchanting/Skinning
3. Druid - Herbalism/Mining
4. Hunter - Engineering/Mining
5. Mage - Enchanting/Tailoring
6. Monk - Enchanting/Tailoring
7. Paladin - Leatherworking/Tailoring
8. Priest - Enchanting/Tailoring
9. Rogue - Enchanting/Tailoring
10. Shaman - Enchanting/Tailoring
11. Warlock - Alchemy/Inscriptions - Main
12. Warrior - Enchanting/Tailoring

Concessions had to be made with naming conventions, and I decided to switch races on a couple of characters. My Rogue is now a Goblin for example, and my Monk is a Pandaren. And my Death Knight is switching to Undead. Even my usual guild name has been taken, yeah Tichondrius is a real shake up for me. But I'm okay with it actually, I think it was really time for a change.

MY ARC
So, short term it's all about establishing myself in new markets. I'm going to keep generating gold and using that gold to move characters over, my next target will be my Death Knight, since he's already 110 with several legendaries. My Demon Hunter will be staying where he is for now, I've decided to just remake him since they start at level 100 anyway. Leveling should be a breeze now that I know the class better and I definitely have a better leveling routine down. In fact, I'll likely be boosting most of the rest of my characters using RAF (again), with the exception of my Hunter. That leaves over half my character select screen on Arthas though, so what to do there?

Most likely I'll be moving those characters to different servers over time to really push my gold ring, but we'll talk more about that later after some serious road testing. In the spirit of change and fresh starts and all that, I've also decided to change it up here a bit as well. As you'll see below, but that's it for this week. See you soon...

CHANGE

I haven't posted much lately, and there's a very good reason for it, I won't bury the lead here... I've hit the wall. I haven't quit the game, but it has become imminently apparent that a change is absolutely necessary if I'm going to keep playing. So, let's talk...

FIRST WORLD (OF WARCRAFT) PROBLEMS
So, what happened exactly? The TLDR is that Blizzard made a damned good expansion and I want to get more involved with the game. Initially I had hoped that running five mans with the new Mythic+ system would work out for my own personal progression five-boxing. In that however, I was wrong.

Mythics are challenging, and there's nothing wrong with that. But there's entirely too much shit on the floor...

Take off your pants and your panties...
But I'm not going to get into that mess, I've spent enough time hashing it out on a previous post so read that if you're not sure what I'm talking about. The conclusion I reached was that boxing just isn't for me right now, which if I'm honest really sucks. Likewise, just running World Quests and schwiftposting tradechat isn't for me either, especially after the election. So, I needed to find a guild if I wanted to get anything done, and I did find one that was a pretty good fit on Staghelm, but there was a problem... timing.

My situation is fairly unique, the only time I have available to play is during the day. Evenings are family time, and that is not going to be changing in the foreseeable future. So normal raid times aren't going to jibe with me and mine, that limitation means I needed to look carefully for a new home in wow. I ended up deciding on Arthas, a PVP server with a relatively high population. That also means I switched back to the Horde, I rerolled Khaas as a Blood Elf.

WAIT WHAT?
Yeah, Horde is not my preference. It feels really weird playing there right now, but it's a compromise I'm willing to make. I went Blood Elf specifically because though I like Orcs, they looks absolutely ridiculous riding horses. Seriously, have you ever seen an Orc on a Deathcharger or Dreadsteed? HILARIOUS. I mainly went Alliance before for a chance of pace and scenery, Blood Elf is a good compromise. I never seriously played them before, and they look good. Bonus points for having an interrupt as a racial. Okay, but why Arthas? Why Horde?

SERVER SELECTION
I'm not one to quote Pirates of the Carribean, but if you'll allow me a moment I'd like to quote Pirates of the Carribean, so indulge me a line from Captain Jack himself, "The only rules that really matter are these: what a man can do and what a man can't do. For instance, you can accept that your father was a pirate and a good man or you can't. But pirate is in your blood, boy, so you'll have to square with that some day." it's actually a pretty important lesson that every adult's got to learn sooner or later. And with things the way they are, I had to figure out where compromises could be made, where they couldn't and navigate accordingly. For the longer version, it went like this.

I started with questions. First, what do I want to do, and what do I want out of the game? I decided that I wanted a more social experience (for several reasons). One where running Mythics and Raiding was actually possible. All right, so what level of raiding do I want to do? Well, I'm not looking for top 100 raiding. I'm perfectly happy with a casual raiding guild where I can challenge my skill, see some content, and have fun. What else do I want? Well, I'd decided I wanted a server with a larger population/community, this generally means a healthier economy for me to flex my muscles in the Auction House.

Additionally, I really wanted to find a server where the name Khaas was available. Other names would be a bonus, but not essential. If push comes to shove though, I might have to find a new name for my main, ultimately that was unnecessary. With a rough idea of what I was looking for in mind I fired up wowprogress...

http://www.wowprogress.com/realms/rank/us

And sorted servers by population, I then logged on to each in turn and attempted to create Khaas and/or other characters I had names for. I compiled a list in Excel to keep track of my findings, the most populous server was a real tempting option. But the highest population servers all have the same problem, scarcity of available names. Basically, if you can think of a name. It's probably already taken. And then there's the login ques, which are something I haven't had to contend with since my days on Blackrock back in Vanilla, so...

I decided to narrow my search a bit. I was looking for something in the 8-10k population area as what I see as ideal. High enough pop for a robust economy, but low enough that I might actually be able to use a name I want. That gave me a list of servers ranging from Hyjal at 10414 to Stormreaver at 8387, I could have dipped a little lower but the next lowest population was Moonguard, the infamous RP server. So, I'd narrowed it down to seven realms (nine including the two connected realms).

Another very real concern/consideration was latency, depending on the physical location of the realm's datacenter/server I could be in for a bad time. So, I consulted the US Realm List by Datacenter page.

Hyjal [ PST , Phoenix ]
Lightbringer [ PST, Phoenix ]
Darkspear [ MST, Los Angeles ]
Arthas [ EST, Chicago ]
Nagrand (connected to Caelestrasz) [ Aust. EST, Los Angeles ]
Khaz'goroth (connected to Dath'Remar) [ PST, Phoenix | Aust. EST, Los Angeles]
Stormreaver [ CST, Chicago ]

This left me with two main contenders, Arthas and Stormreaver. I checked out their server forums and Arthas immediately jumped to the top of the list when I saw a recruitment thread for a morning/day raiding guild, Oblivious. They raid twice per week Mon and Weds from 11 AM to 2 PM. It being an EST server, that means 10 am to 1 pm for me. Which is actually perfection as far as I'm concerned. And with a population of just under nine thousand, it fit neatly into my target area. Bonus the name Khaas was available, though I had to compromise on the faction and go Horde.

Additionally, this is a server with a lot of highly progressed guilds. With the top being 59th worldwide, the top 11 guilds in fact are in the top 2000 world wide and all Horde. So, it's a server with a lot of lateral mobility. I made a few characters and started playing around, and so far so good. I'm still looking at other possible options, but this one looks like the best case scenario so far. So, until further notice consider this my new spot.

You can add me on battle.net as Heathen#12399 and follow along as I rebuild my empire...

THE CRACK OF DOOM

Legion is proving to be a time to get weird with it, so let's go ahead and do that...

THE SITUATION
First, let me apologize for recent lack of updates. I fully expected to have a lot more to report over the past couple of weeks, but for reasons that will soon become clear I was put in a situation where I felt like I needed to evaluate a few things before I knew how to proceed.

I started the expansion with a very clear plan of how I wanted to progress, the Mythic+ dungeons provided a scaling challenge that would (I thought) be an excellent way to enjoy boxing. Unfortunately, boxing a mixed group like the one I detailed in my previous post was untenable at best. Running casters just isn't going to cut it in Mythic+ Dungeons. Why?

The basic problem is there's just too much shit on the floor(s). Dungeon encounters have gotten increasingly complex, with many AOE mechanics. And just healing/casting through the damage isn't really an option. So, moving the team regularly to avoid damage means a lot of missed damage.

Then there's the question of rewards, more AP and armor with random stats. Yeah, it means a pretty solid shot at legendaries; which also might not even be usable by that character if they've angered RNGesus. So, it's a lot of extra work and investment for a crap shoot of a reward.

OTHER PROBLEMS
I didn't mention this above, but there is the slight annoyance of juggling five completely different Order Halls. Which is pretty trivial at a certain point, but early on is a real pita. Knocking World Quests down is super easy, but those peak pretty quickly. I had a full set of 840+ gear within 24 hours of hitting 110. After that it's back to praying at the altar of RNG for Warforged/Titanforged upgrades or just grinding out the class gear. And since I play on a PVE server, it's not like I can just go wreck Horde in Aszuna or something. So, what are my options?

Well, for boxing there's really only two right now thanks to the mechanical constraints of Mythics. Tank, Heals, 3 BM Hunters - Bleh...

Or the taunt it till it dies option of five tanks, which has proven so far to be the best option. Wait, what?

AM FEK TANK!
Yeah, you read that right. People are boxing with five tanks to do Mythics. Either five Protection Paladins or 4 Blood DKs and a Prot Paladin. It's actually more efficient to use the Prot Pali to heal than Holy to heal in this situation, I kid you not. The main advantage is that you can trade around the plate to get the best stats on the character you want to stand out. I think if I was tanking in a raiding guild, this might be an attractive option early in the expansion (think the first two weeks), but we're past the point where that would've been truly appealing.

I really thought long and hard about it, I've definitely got the Paladins and DKs to make it work if I wanted. And there was something very appealing about the prospect of going all Ric Flair on some dungeons. Ultimately though, I find this option really unsatisfying. So, what's the compromise?

I'm honestly leaning toward hanging up my boxing spurs for the time being as a result of this and going back to focusing on my main set of characters, with Khaas at the top of the pile. That, or resign myself to muddling through the content with my team, farming old raids and crap. But, honestly I don't think that option is likely. So, for now at least, I'm consolidating my forces to a single wow account and potentially looking for a new guild, since playing with myself doesn't look like the satisfying option it once was...

SHAMANALAMADINGDONG

Today I bring you notes from the Broken Isles, and a look at a new member of my team...

By now I imagine it's obvious I like games, my interests are diverse but I'd be lying if I said I don't have a pretty extensive background in tabletop games. Dungeons and Dragons, Warhammer, Magic the Gathering... even Battle Cattle (don't judge me). I'm not a wholly original person when it comes to naming my characters in WoW. You'd be forgiven for thinking this is because I've got so many, that eventually I'm going to have to get crazy with the cheese whiz. But, really a lot of the time I just swipe something that I think fits from some other game, book, etc. I try to avoid "main" characters when possible. I also gravitate toward the bad guys, because good is dumb. And where Khaas has his roots in D&D, Hashut is another animal entirely...

HASHUT ASCENDING

Once or twice upon a time I played a tabletop wargame called Warhammer, you're likely familiar with it even if you've never held a little plastic skeleton with an arrow in the knee. It's largely fallen out of favor with me over the years, but the imagery is quite strong. The forces of Chaos, the Dwarves especially are interesting, and there we have Hashut. A malevolent god of hellfire and darkness, also my Shaman...

My healer revealed...

There's not much story behind the name other than that, I took a fictional deity from Warhammer and just put his name in the character creation screen. In terms of appearance, I went with 9, 10, 1, 10, 1 as I've done with the rest of my Dwarves. I went male simply because I; like any right thinking person, don't care for the look of their women. Much like how I really don't like the look of male Draenei and Pandaren, not the male Pandaren specifically... just... all of those fluffy bastards. While we're on the subject of virtual racism, not a fan of Worgen either. The rest of the Alliance: Gnomes, Night Elves, and Humans aren't bad though.

I digress though, Hashut is my main healer with others on the bench for now. This account is dedicated to the Dwarves, with a Monk, Paladin, and Priest all riding the pine. Alongside one of many Druids.

THE SHAMAN EXPERIENCE
I played a Shaman in EverQuest extensively, though there's little comparison between the classes in these two games, they're still both "spiritual/tribal healers". To clarify, I'm levelling using his offspec, Elemental. At max level I expect I'll be using this for clearing trash and farming World Quests with my team. For now though, while leveling I find Elemental to be surprisingly durable. Don't ask me why, but it somehow feels less squishy than Enhancement, which is a bit vexing.

I was actually kinda looking forward to hammer smashing my way to 110, seems appropriate for a Dwarf. But, I'm not going that way if it doesn't feel right, and right now it just doesn't. Pity. As of this writing Hashut is halfway to 110. But I'm not breaking my neck getting him there. Where Khaas is a completionist, the rest of my army is all about doing the minimum necessary to advance. I'll get my levels and do Suramar for the unlocks, then the fun starts with the team... but for now, back to work.

See you in the Broken Isles!

DING DING DEATH MOBILE

Legion has released, and so far it's proven if nothing else that there's still some life in the old World of Warcraft...

SO IT BEGINS
For those unaware, Legion happened. The first expansion release since I returned to the game, I was excited and with preparations made in game I thought I was ready to rock the second the servers were ready for me. I however, may have made a miscalculation...

Okay, so I wasn't in Dalaran waiting for the quest giver...

< Truthfully, I had no intention of being first through the gates this time around. My basic gameplan for the launch of the expansion was and is just to have fun with it. I actually got myself down to zero gold prior to the launch, with the intention of seeing how the money flowed through the beginning and beyond. Though, I DID get 20k from the cards pictured above... And though I initially had planned to box my way through the zones, I quickly adjusted my plans. Basically, I hadn't set aside any time to configure my software, worse when I got things going in the most crude way imaginable I found my UI squished and unplayable. So, I narrowed my focus and figured I've got time to muck around before I flesh out my team anyway, so to Dalaran!

Damn right I leveled as Blood...

I started out in Highmountain, from my time on the Alpha/Beta I knew I wanted to save my favorite zone for last. From there I basically let my Blacksmithing and Enchanting quests lead the way. which is how I recommend most people tackle which zone to go to first (let your profession quests be your guide). I ended up with Azsuna and Val'sharah eating up the later half of the climb, I was at 90% of 109 by the time I finished, I still hadn't set foot in Stormheim. I went back to Highmountain to collect the pieces for the Rocfeather Skyhorn Kite, I HIGHLY advise anyone playing get this before hitting Stormheim.

Damned right I take candle!

While I was there, I found a small quest chain that finished me off. Yeah, I hit 110 as a quest giver for some Kobolds. This was frankly a nice little side quest, and indicative of what I love about Legion. Everytime I look at it, there's some other little thing. Maybe not much, but something that I can enjoy.

MY BUDDY AND ME
The bodyguard system has been reworked, for Death Knights (at least for me) I got Thassarian and Koltira as Bodyguard options currently. Thassarian is cool, he's unobtrusive. You just randomly proc his appearance. He comes out of a Death Gate and starts wailing on your enemies for a few seconds, then he goes back to Acherus. Koltira however is a traditional bodyguard, more like what you're familiar with from WOD.

He accompanies you pretty much everywhere, and when the fight starts he starts hacking away alongside you...

The bromance is strong with this one...
The trick with Koltira is that he's also a tank, so he's not the dishing out glorious amounts of damage. What he is doing however is dropping Anti Magic Zones and turning every fight into a ping pong match. That might sound awful, but consider he has about the same health as me. And since I know how his AI works, I can essentially use him to effectively double my HP in a normal fight. Yeah, I've been tag teaming World Quest bosses with my bestie here using the classic EverQuest strategy of "Let Them Weaken It!"

It works like this, we both begin attacking a big baddie. I don't fight for aggro, I just do a normal rotation. Koltira will taunt, a lot. The mob will smash him in the face repeatedly, and I'll grab aggro occasionally. When Koltira takes aggro back (as he always does) I'll self heal with basically all of my attacks. Koltira will eventually die, and the boss will be down generally to half or lower. I'll be at full health...

A few seconds later Koltira comes back screaming and taunting, and full health. Because, that's how Bodyguards work now. We're happy together, it's pretty great.

LIFE AFTER 110
I've got the full set of quests in Stormheim to look forward to and Suramar, being 110 already means I'll be getting a lot of scaled up rewards. Then I plan to burn through the instance quests and finish up the class campaign. Mostly though, this week I'll be focusing on my Shaman, Hashut. Getting him up to par is going to go a long way into making the most out of these world quests and crap. But for now, as in the beginning... I'm just enjoying the game.

Pictured: An agent of chaos...

Plus also, I am Batman...

QUESTION TIME

It's the final countdown, Legion is almost here and a lot of new and returning players have questions...

THE QUESTIONS
Recently a lot of people, some which I had no idea had even a passing interest in World of Warcraft have approached me with a variety of questions concerning the latest expansion, Legion. I've spent months preparing for this expansion, though my considerations are going to be a bit different from the average WOW player as I'm considering full group/raid composition for my veritable army of alts. Still, I have to give it up to Preacher for his analysis in the video series "Choosing a Class for Legion" which I've provided below.

If you're login screen(s) looks like this, you're going to need to ask yourself the tough questions for this expansion because mass alt playing really isn't going to be feasible if you want to maintain a high level of performance/gear score.

Not only are these two videos highly valuable for the decision making process, but he has done more detailed analysis of each class/spec in the game. Which is HUGE for anyone still on the fence at this late hour, because let's be honest you're not going to be dicking around in Beta right now figuring out what you want to play. As my old friend Aahz once said, "The time is right!" in this case, not to ninja pull and wipe the raid but to make a decision.

I HAS ANSWERS
I think the first question to ask yourself is what you want to do in World of Warcraft. What are your goals? Both short term and long term. It may sound silly, but it's actually pretty important. People become invested in the characters they play in MMOs. I created Khaas on November 13th, 2008. But, I actually FIRST created Khaas when I started dual-boxing EverQuest many, many years ago. So, when you find out that I'm going to be dual-boxing a Death Knight and Shaman in Legion initially, you'll understand that's not exactly earth shattering news as first blush.

Look back at the beginning of the year however and it was a very different story. If you'd asked me even a few months ago, I would've said that my Warrior and Priest were going to be the ones palling around. But in April I started playing the Alpha, and learned to love the Death Knight all over again. In the months that followed, healing changed dramatically for all of the classes. I landed on the Shaman for several reasons, specifically because it offered me the most overall utility and ease of use for both healing and DPSing with elemental spells, but again my needs are more specific than those of the average player.

One question a friend asked me just yesterday in fact involved tanking vs healing, it's pretty common knowledge at this point that if you're able to do either of these you'll have an easier time when it comes to random queing for LFD and LFR. If this is a deciding factor for you, then understand this narrows your pool of choices down a bit. There are now six tanking classes and five healing. If you want the luxury of going both ways, that narrows the field even more.

Druids, Paladins, Monks these are the classes capable of both tanking and healing. Death Knights, Warriors, and the latest addition the Demon Hunter are all capable of both tanking and melee DPS, but completely lacking in both ranged as well as healing capabilities. With each copy of Legion you'll get a free level 100 boost, but it should be noted you'll also be getting a level 100 Demon Hunter after you spend roughly 30-45 minutes in their starting zone.

So, if you're completely new you may want to make a Demon Hunter for tanking and melee DPS, then consider a Healer/Ranged DPS character for your 100 boost. Hmm, the plot thickens. If you're wanting to get the best out of it, this is what I personally would do. You'll have to wait until you've used your boost to make your Demon Hunter on a completely fresh account of course, it requires you have a level 70 character at minimum.

Follow those videos from Preacher, and I think you'll have a good idea of what you want to play. Remember though, there's going to be a lot of Demon Hunters. This means a lot of people who don't really know how to tank, but TOTALLY want to look rad while dying. This could definitely affect your choice (tank ques are going to suck until the flavor of the month class dies down a bit, and healers are going to have to wade into the waters of fuckery with people who have more chest tattoos than situational awareness).

That aside, once you've figured out what you want to play, then what?

INVASIONS
Once you've made your character, you'll probably want to start hitting up the Legion Invasion sites. Currently, there are three active at a time, though this is likely to increase soon. The way it works is that every two hours, on the hour a new set of sites is active (the frequency is also likely to increase), Demons begin attacking one of those six sites (Westfall, Dun Morough, Hillsbrad, Azshara, Tanaris, and Northern Barrens). If you've been away from the game, get a port to Shrine in Pandaria, and set your hearth there. From the Innkeeper go out the door, and up the stairs (take the left hand flight of stairs) into a room with a bunch of portals. From here you can reach any of the invasion sites quickly. The invasions take about 15-20 minutes each to complete, and reward you with chests containing ilvl 700 gear and currency you can use to buy more gear and limited time pets from special vendors.

It's not ABSOLUTELY necessary, but it's nice to have the collection of appearances, and it's definitely nice upgrades for a freshly minted character. You'll be able to fully kit out your character in a day, don't forget to complete the quest in your home city too, this will give you a ring and a weapon, as well as getting you ready for launch day, because this is the beginning parts of the artifact quest chain that everybody needs to do. These actually function almost identically to the Rift Invasion events if you're at all familiar with that game.

I HIGHLY recommend getting this AddOn for the Invasion events.

PROFESSIONS
If you're going completely fresh, I'd advise getting Mining/Herbalism right now. You don't have to level it up because of the way the professions work in Legion, but you'll make some serious gold selling the materials you don't need to other people in the first few weeks of the game. Once prices normalize, switch to whatever profession(s) you want. And craft yourself a full set of the new armor/weapons. Then of course, take the excess Blood of Sargeras to the Obliterum Forge and upgrade that shit.

As for what professions are good? All of them, basically. I mean, really if you're a plate user and you go Tailoring, then you do you man. But generally, of course if you're making armor you may want to stick with the kind of armor that the character can actually use. Even Smiths can make mounts now, so yeah. Me, I'm covering the bases.

DK is Blacksmith/Enchanting.
Shaman is Alchemy/Leatherworking.
Hunter is Mining/Engineering.
Warlock is Inscriptions/Tailoring.
Mage is Jewelcrafting/Tailoring.

And I've got another team that's going to be farming mats (Skinning/Enchanting on the tank, and Mining/Herbalism on everyone else).

And for those specifically looking to join me as I cleave demon balls in twain, you can find me on Staghelm (Alliance). Just look me up as Khaas#1502 on Battle.net or ask anyone in the guild SRS Business. Odds are about 1:1 it'll be me. And if you have more questions about getting started in Legion, ask.
